Correcting Your Deficiency

Since I began my journey over two years ago I've learned and changed in so many ways. I originally thought that each person should get a blood workup done before going full force into supplementing but I've since changed my opinion on that. I never did get a workup done, never had a doc or money for one and now I'm not so sure they are necessary (aside from surgeons and naturopathic/holistic/homeopathic practitioners) I DO know, that EVERYONE NEEDS vitamins and minerals and in seemingly high amount. The amount is due to the various poisons that we are exposed to on a regular basis, not only do we need to block those and keep them out, what was in our body prior to that is going to stay in till a certain sufficiency of iodine in in your system.

Starting out supplementing is not only easy it is affordable! It's much cheaper than gym memberships, health insurance, doctor visit copays, not to mention prescription drugs. In fact full supplementation will cost you no more than $23 per month in US dollars you will get healthy and another benefit is losing weight.

But first... In some cases, certain supplements can interact with your thyroid hormone meds and/or other medications, so it's very important that your doctor know about them. If you have questions about whether the list of supplements below will interact with any meds you may be taking, you may ask your question here and I will find all the information I can for you.  If you are on SEROTONERGIC/Anti-depressant Meds you should read this FIRST.

 I found this video at

Some people use dessicated thyroid gland and dessicated adrenal gland for support, I feel that is only giving your body what it's needing rather than giving it a jump start to make what it needs. The old teach a guy to fish theory. I also don't believe in medications anymore, from my experience pharma drugs never cure anything, they mask one symptom and cause ten others, then they give you another med to treat the effects of the first med and you still aren't better. I believe God has provided all the "medicine" we need from plants, animals, and even insects (I LOVE honey!!!). This cartoon explains my feelings perfectly!

This is what my family is taking with excellent results! Read our success stories here!

  •  Iodine- as Iodoral 12.5mg (1 tablet) per day (this is a minimum dose for adults and can be increased, I began with a few drops and worked my way up to 1 Iodoral, a week later I took 2 Iodoral, a couple more weeks later and I began taking one potassium iodide pill 32.5mg, I am only currently taking 4 potassium iodide pills totaling 130mg, this is while pregnant that I increased it and now breastfeeding so I and my kids are proof that it's not only safe during pregnancy and lactation it really boosts the IQ)
  •  Multivitamin (One'n'Only by Life Essences does not contain many of the usual allergens or the goitrogen soy, and it's made with whole foods)
  • Chromium- 200-400mcg Chromium is a trace element that plays a significant role in helping to regulate the amount of glucose in the blood and maintain blood sugar and cholesterol levels that are in the normal range.
  • Vanadium- 1mg    Vanadium is a biologically important metal that is essential for normal cell function and development. Vanadium has been shown to help maintain blood-sugar levels that are in the normal range by its insulin-like effects in the liver, skeletal muscle and adipose (fat that surrounds our organs) tissue.
  •  Omega 3 Cod liver Oil (1 teaspoon of Carlson Cod Liver oil, you can take lemon flavor to avoid the nasty fish burps) protects the thyroid gland and may reduce the severity of hypothyroidism  -  deficiency can interfere with normal nervous system and brain function
  • Vitamin C - 2000-3000mg
  • Vitamin B complex (in One'n'Only Multivitamin)
  • Vitamin B8 Inositol Inositol helps with the transportation of fats throughout the body and also helps neurons communicate better with the body's nervous system.(Inositol deficiency causes hair loss, eczema, high cholesterol, constipation, and eye problems.) Inositol is a fundamental ingredient of all cell membranes and is necessary for proper nerve, brain, and muscle function. Therefore our bodies need inositol to function properly. in One'n'Only Multivitamin
  • Vitamin E - (in One'n'Only Multivitamin)
  •  Siberian Ginseng (ok to use while breastfeeding, this is so beneficial when first starting out, I'd recommend taking this for the first 3 months at least til you are back on track, if sugar cravings come back start taking it again) Siberian Ginseng is an adaptogen that may help individuals resist fatigue also helps improve the ability to withstand the pressures of modern lifestyles or Licorice Root (not for people with high blood pressure)Licorice Root ingredients have effects that may naturally support immune functions for adrenal support. Find more info here on the usage.
  • Magnesium is critical to many cellular functions, including energy production, protein formation and cellular replication. Magnesium participates in more than 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, in particular those processes involved in energy production. (already in the multi I suggest, though an additional supplement is beneficial, I take 500-1000mg additional every day)
  • Potassium: in a chronically fatigued person, low potassium levels are commonly seen. Potassium plays a significant role in the regulation of stomach hydrochloric acid and helps normalise stomach acid function. (already in the multi I suggest, though an additional supplement may be beneficial if your food intake does not have high amounts) My husband has felt 100% better after eating some bananas, they are a good source of potassium.
       in One'n'Only Multivitamin
  • Zinc is vital to support immune function, sensory functions, sexual function and skin health. Low adrenal function usually involves zinc depletion. (Note that increased caffeine consumption can deplete zinc, magnesium and copper.) Copper is required for proper iron absorption and utilisation and is necessary for the proper cross-linking of collagen and elastin. (already in the multi I suggest)
  • Ferrous Sulfate (Iron) Iron is an essential mineral and an important component of proteins involved in oxygen transport and metabolism. Iron is also an essential cofactor in the synthesis of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and serotonin. This you should get tested for, overdosing is much too easy to do and the effects can be quite detrimental to your health. ( I take one 25mg tablet each day as a breastfeeding mother of two, for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers 25mg is ok, for adult women pre menopause 18mg is the necessary amount and for men and children over 1 the dose is 10mg)

Suggested additional supplements particular to the differing conditions...

The addition of COQ10 has been known to be effective as an additional supplement

The following is a supplement protocol derived from

Basic Protocol

1. 50-100 mg. Iodoral or Lugol’s solution (Iodoral is the Logol’s formula in tablet form.)
a. Note: This may be too much for some people with fibromyalgia. You are urged to start with
12.5 mg (one tablet) and work your way up gradually. If bromide detox symptoms are severe,
use the salt loading protocol. Patients report that detox symptoms greatly subside or disappear
after a few weeks.

2. 2000-3000 mg. Vitamin C per day. (More may be necessary to detox bromide.)

3. 400-800 mg. magnesium oxide per day

4. 200 mcg selenium

5. 625 mg. inositol hexaniacinate. This is non-flushing niacin. DO NOT use the other form of niacin as it may cause severe flushing! Note: If itching occurs, reduce the dosage. (small amount in the multi I suggest)

6. Riboflavin (B2) – 300 mg in the morning.
Salt Loading Protocol for possible bromide detoxification side effects (frontal headaches, mouth sores,

¼ teaspoon Celtic sea salt dissolved in warm water, followed by 12-16 oz. filtered water. Repeat in 30-
45 minutes until copious urination begins. Some patients find it is necessary to load as much as 1 tsp.
Celtic sea salt/day to control the bromide detoxification symptoms.

Hypothyroidism, Graves Disease, Hashimotos and Thyroiditis

Adding 3tbs per day of coconut oil will assist your thyroid in functioning properly. Taken during an anxiety attack should stop it in 10 minutes.

Coconut oil. The lauric acid found in coconut oil will convert into monolaurin in the intestines. The lauric acid and monolaurin together will kill off some parasites, yeast and viruses (including measles). Give the body a chance to get used to this change. Start with no more than a teaspoon of coconut oil per day for an adult. (Less for a child.) Mix the oil with some fiber (eg a grated carrot) so that some of the oil will make it to the last part of the intestines. When using coconut oil, it can increase metabolic rate. This increases the need for B6 and other B vitamins. More zinc and other minerals may also be needed. Therapeutic doses for an adult are three tablespoons of coconut oil per day. If there is an allergy to coconut, try palm oil instead. This is also high in lauric acid.

The addition of progesterone cream has proven beneficial to many women suffering with PCOS. The information below is derived from (

Guidelines for Progesterone Cream Dosage for PCOS (8)

Early PCOS - 32mg from day 12-26

Advanced PCOS - 54mg from day 12-26 of your cycle

Severe PCOS with pain, 64mg of progesterone cream from day 5-26 , to address pain from endometriosis. Then try to wean back to a lesser dose or to extend breaks to fall into line with a day 12-26 cycle. Note, if you are using a regime day 5-26 in the first 4-7 months until symptoms settle, please be aware you are using a program suggested to enhance fertility. (8)

Dr. Lam Progesterone Guidelines for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (9)

Dr. Lam follows Dr John R Lee pioneering use of progesterone.

Apply 20 mg of progesterone cream during day 14 to 28 of the menstrual cycle. Adjust accordingly if for longer or shorter cycle. As the hormonal balance is regained, facial hair and acne, two commonly associated symptoms, will disappear. (9)

It is suggested that persons suffering from FBD take a daily dose of 50mg of iodine for the rest of their life, this of course should be discussed with your doctor and regular testing should be conducted. Below is a quote from Optimox regarding recommended dose for FBD.

" After a full year at 50 mg iodine per day (4 tablets of Iodoralâ ), the patients mean score dropped to 3.8. We saw many patients with a score of zero, meaning no evidence of FBD. We often see patients’ breast pain disappear in a 1 to 30 days at a dose of 50 mg. At lower doses, the pain persisted for a much longer time. The other findings of micronodularity, tenderness, fibrous tissue plaques, macrocysts and turgidity will take almost a full year to fully go away. Ghent felt that a score of seven or below was normal. We did not see any of the patients reach the score of zero, meaning the absence of all of the pathological symptoms and physical findings of fibrocystic breast disease while taking between 12.5 to 37.5 mg per day. Once FBD is gone, a patient may opt to drop iodine intake to 12.5 to 25 mg per day. There is a chance that the cysts will return. Optimum amount for most patients for FBD is 50 mg (4 tablets) per day continued indefinitely. Monitoring the patient’s serum TSH, T4 and free T3 is done every three to six months. We did not see any major changes in serum T4, TSH and free T3 in these patients." ( per
